Muggles may still have a couple days before they return to school,
but the young witches and wizards at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and
Wizardry are all aboard the Hogwarts Express. “Harry Potter”
fans will remember that every year the train – which runs between
King’s Cross Station Platform 9 3/4 and Hogsmeade Station – departs on
Sept. 1 at 11 a.m. sharp.
Fans of the beloved “Harry Potter” franchise took to Twitter on Sept.
1 to post about the Hogwarts Express. Shortly after 11 a.m. EDT,
#BackToHogwarts began trending on the social media site.
“I wish I was going #BackToHogwarts,”
some Twitter users posted Monday morning. Others took the social media
platform to tweet their desired house name – Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw,
Gryffindor and Slytherin.
The first “Harry Potter” book, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” was released on June 26, 1997. The novel introduced Harry
Potter, a young boy who had no idea that he was a famous wizard until
his 11th birthday. After receiving his Hogwart’s acceptance letter,
Harry Potter was introduced to the wizarding world through Hagrid, the
Hogwarts groundskeeper. A short time after gathering his school supplies
and visiting his family vault, Harry Potter traveled to King’s Cross
Station in London on Sept. 1 – however Platform 9 3/4 did not exist.
Thanks to a family of red heads (the Weasley’s), Harry discovered that
he must walk through the barrier between platforms nine and 10 to access
the train to Hogwarts. At 11 a.m. the Hogwarts Express departed, taking
Harry to his first year at the famous school of Witchcraft and
Wizardry.
